Accessibility Reviews

We provide consultation services on how to create accessible digital content. We can also help determine whether third-party Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products are accessible to people with disabilities. We provide you with the tools, strategies, knowledge and resources to ensure your digital content or procured technology is accessible and usable to the broadest possible audience.

It is important to consider accessibility during the design and development phases of creating a website, application or electronic document. It’s equally important for digital content producers to ensure accessibility as they update the website or add digital content. There are several ways to accomplish this, depending on your skill and comfort level.

Consultation and Training

Schedule a brief introductory training session with us to gain a basic overview of digital accessibility, which includes:

  • How people with disabilities use the Web
  • How assistive technologies work
  • Common accessibility issues
  • Testing tools to help determine accessibility issues

Test Your Site

MU’s Digital Access Check for Accessibility webpage has a list of accessibility checkers that can test your website and electronic documents. These tools check for accessibility issues and provide suggestions for fixing them.

It is important to note that automated tools cannot check for all accessibility guidelines, and some manual testing is required to determine full compliance.

Accessibility Review

We conduct manual and automated testing in accordance to the accessibility guidelines. We use screen readers to simulate what your site would be like for people with visual impairments. We also perform various tests to evaluate the website from the perspective of other disabilities such as hearing loss, manual dexterity, color blindness, low vision, etc. We will provide you with a comprehensive report of our testing results.

Procuring Third-Party Technology

When purchasing Information and Communication Technologies or services for the university, you are responsible for ensuring IT products are accessible to persons with disabilities. To learn more, visit Purchasing Technology.

There are no fees associated with this service.
